A listing of the MHAC: KIPDA Region’s endeavors are listed below:

  • 2005 – Awarded a one-time grant allocation from the state MHAC to develop and implement a community based behavioral health/physical health integration pilot project. Known as BHIP (Behavioral Health Integration Project), this project was implemented through collaboration between Seven Counties Services, Inc., KIPDA and the University of Louisville-Kent School of Social Work.  Though funding ceased in 2006, the basic interventions developed in the BHIP continue to move forward.
  • 2007 - Training for Volunteers of Aging Services Provider Agencies.  This all-day training focused on providing user friendly information to volunteers (Meals on Wheels, Telephone Reassurance, Senior Centers) to acquaint them with the basics of behavioral health and older adults and enhance their capabilities to recognize ‘trigger’ symptoms that suggest an older adult is in a crisis.  Four modules were presented and video taped.  Additionally, a learning manual was developed.  In order to determine the efficacy of the training, pre-post questionnaires were developed.  Based on analysis of the questionnaires, all aging services volunteer providers receiving Title III B and/or Title III C funding through KIPDA are required to view the training modules and complete the pre-post questionnaires.
  • 2007 – A Symposium: Substance Abuse and the Older Adult.  This six hour symposium was staffed by an interdisciplinary faculty including psychiatry, social work and certified drug alcohol counselors.  CEU’s for social work and CADC’s were approved.
  • 2008- Professional Conference on September 22, 2008 entitled HIV/AIDS and the Older Adult. This was a successful symposium that included physicians, social workers and other members of the community, including people diagnosed with HIV/AIDS to discuss many aspects of the disease. We had a great turnout of many professionals in the community.
  • 2008- the Coalition is now a 501 (c) 3 tax status.
